The Realtor Association of Greater Miami and the Beaches (RAMB) has subscribed its 9,000 members to TerraFly, an Internet-based service that features high-resolution imagery to let users virtually fly over the US at 1-meter or better resolution.
The program developed for real estate agents incorporates detailed property information. Members can access not only aerial pictures of the property, but also sales price history, tax information, property features, etc. Property report is enhanced by neighborhood information, including extended demographics, quality of life, schools with ratings data, restaurants, shopping malls and other local businesses.
Custom overlays for Miami realtors include property lines and multiple listings data overlayed and brochures linked.
Said Teresa King Kinney, RAMB CEO, "Our leaders are very excited about the new service."
Stories about Terrafly service to realtors appeared in Miami Herald 2/10/03 and Miami Today 2/6/03.
One of the benefits of TerraFly for realtors is the enormous saving of time for the agent and her client by showing a preview of available properties in a given area via TerraFly. Imagery data is dynamically overlaid with icons and brief line and point captions of prices and sizes of properties for sale; clicking on a marked property brings up detailed information about the property and its neighborhood and a link to its full brochure in a separate window. This service provides a significant and real cost savings to the buyer's agent by allowing potential buyers to pre-screen properties and neighborhoods before making physical visits. The prospective buyer, taken on a virtual helicopter flight over a neighborhood, can narrow down her choices by seeing the properties' environment, external improvements, and architectural elements, as well as overlaid information about schools, hospitals, industrial areas, or neighborhood demographics.
TerraFly is a new Internet-based technology that makes it possible for users to "fly over" vast land areas using only an ordinary Web browser. By using high-resolution imagery collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and other sources, users can experience an overhead view of almost any location in the United States at a one-meter resolution-without the expense of standard GIS application software. The project, which is funded by NASA, the National Science Foundation, and IBM, can be accessed on the Web at http://www.terrafly.com.
